Awards Banquet to Recognize Conservation Work and 50 Years of Achievement
(BATON ROUGE, March 18, 2014) The Louisiana Wildlife Federation (LWF) will hold its 50th Annual Governor’s State Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet on March 29, 2014 at the Lake House Reception Center in Baton Rouge. The banquet includes a cocktail reception at 6pm and dinner at 7pm.
The Governor’s Award – Conservationist of the Year for 2013 will be presented to Garret Graves of Baton Rouge, recently Chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and Governor Bobby Jindal’s coastal advisor on policy issues regarding coastal Louisiana. Six other individuals, one business, and one organization will also be recognized for their outstanding conservation achievements in 2013. They are: Nathaniel Klumb of Baton Rouge, Sean Turner of Prairieville; Pastorek Habitats, LLC of Covington; Tonya Dean and Jamie Griffin, teachers at North Live Oak Elementary in Watson; Terrebonne Parish President Michel Claudet of Houma; photographer Greg Guirard of St. Martinville; and Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society in Eunice.
Don Dubuc, host of “Outdoors with Don Dubuc Radio Network” and “More Outdoors on 3WL,” will emcee the banquet.
Honorary Banquet Chairwoman Sandra Thompson Herman said, “I invite other past conservation award recipients to join me at the banquet to celebrate significant conservation work in 2013. This year’s banquet marks 50 years of recognizing conservation achievement in Louisiana and we will also recognize past Governor’s Award recipients who have inspired others to protect Louisiana’s environment. It is exciting to learn more about today’s conservation leaders while reflecting on the legacy of great conservationists from the past five decades.” Sandra Thompson Herman has twice been recognized with a Conservation Professional of the Year Award, is a past Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism and retired from the State as Director of Louisiana’s Atchafalaya Basin Program.
