LDWF Holds Public Hearing to Discuss Salivinia Control Measures on Lake Bistineau

(Sept. 14, 2013) – Giant salvinia, an invasive aquatic weed, continues to be a serious problem on Lake Bistineau, despite extensive control efforts initiated by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.  In an effort to stay abreast of the ongoing problem, the Department seriously considers all suggested control measures.

The agency will hold a public hearing on Thursday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at the Doyline High School Cafeteria, 376 College St., to consider two proposed control measures: timber removal and modification of the Lake Bistineau control structure.

Details related to the attached report will be the primary topic of discussion, but attendees will also have an opportunity to discuss all aspects of Lake Bistineau management with LDWF representatives.

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is charged with managing and protecting many of Louisiana’s abundant natural resources. For more information, visit us at www.wlf.louisiana.gov, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ldwffb or follow us on Twitter @LDWF.
